hello, I’m Laura

Combining 15 years of journalism, professional editing and a general love for the written word, award-winning writer and freelance editor Laura Evans is widely recognised for her ability to turn simple copy into engaging and thought-provoking content.

Laura’s early career was defined by winning the British Dental Association’s Young Writer of the Year Award, an accolade she gained during her time working in the editorial department of a London-based international dental newspaper. The rest, as they say, is history.

After a decade spent traveling the world, supporting clients in a variety of sectors including specialised transport, automotive PR and UK-based architecture, Laura settled into the publishing world, holding the reins as editor of Garden Centre Catering Magazine, before embarking on her freelance career.

During her first few years freelancing, Laura’s portfolio of clients expanded to include that of Kent Wildlife Trust, where she was brought on to help with the individual editing and proof-reading of the organisation’s wildlife reports. Laura has also delivered several commissioned articles for loveFOOD, where she explored various culinary trends through the decades.

Laura is a regular freelance editor for Lysander PR, where she works with clients involved in sustainable resilience-building through insurance. Through Lysander PR, Laura is also Managing Editor of the Journal of Catastrophe Risk and Resilience, a diamond open-access interdisciplinary research journal which publishes research on natural hazards and catastrophe risk.

Laura is available for writing long-form and short-form content, undertaking research for explorative articles, transcriptions, interviews, feature articles, ghost writing, copyediting and proof-reading.

A little bit more
about Laura…

Early on in her writing career, Laura was awarded The British Dental Association Young Writer of the Year Award for a series of research articles she wrote about the – until then – untold story of Sir Harry Baldwin, a 19th Century dentist. Famed for looking after the ‘pearly whites’ of the Royal Family and for his role in the field of facial reconstructive surgery during World War I, Harry’s life story is one that is both remarkable and admirable.

Aside from her freelance work, Laura is passionate about gardening and self-sustainability – the successes, trials and tribulations of which she regularly writes about.
